Sentient Communication Retreat
Cultivate a Mindful, Heart-Centered Awareness for Personal Well-being Professional Success and Social Transformation
April 18-19, 2020 Brenham, Texas
Come relax among the oaks as you learn the art of Sentient Communication with horses. This innovative experiential learning workshop brings together the latest research on mind-body science and the healing power of the human-animal bond with specific techniques for reducing stress, enhancing health, and cultivating meaningful, mutually supportive relationships with people and animals.
The two day-workshop highlights key principles and a sequence of experiential learning activities designed to exercise what Linda Kohanov calls Sentient Communication™. Linda developed this process through 20 years of distilling experiences, leading workshops, researching/writing 5 books and collaborating with professionals in multiple fields.
What is Sentient Communication?
“Sentient Communication shows us how to elevate instinctual impulses and physiological processes to a language combining purposeful changes in breathing and heart rate, with a finely tuned awareness of emotional cues, body posture shifts, energetic awareness, and intuitive insights that we learn to consciously respond to rather than unconsciously react to.” (Kohanov, 2017).
Why Horses
Horses are highly attuned to nonverbal communication. They have the capacity to help us to look deeply within ourselves, understand emotion as information, connect with each other in way that feels natural and authentic (SR). They can help people learn to communicate and respond beyond the limitations of words. This process is best learned through experience and horses are natural teachers.
Benefits of Sentient Communication
Sentient Communication skills will help you change the conversation and dynamic with your horse and in your human relationships to a more mindful, heart-centered partnership. It teaches skills to calm and regulate your nervous system and be more present and balanced during times of stress and disconnection in yourself or those around you. It helps reduce performance anxiety and supports the capacity for flexibility, resiliency and well-being.
