Maintaining Your Horse Partner; Maintaining Your Passion
Any kind of therapy is demanding work. Burnout is inevitable. What are you going to do to prevent your horse from burning out? What are you going to do when you yourself inevitably burnout?
Rupert Isaacson, creator of Horse Boy Method and ATHENA (Applied Techniques Using Horse-based Educational and Neuroscientific Approaches) will talk about how to prepare and maintain your equine partner using the old Master’s ways of working in hand to keep your horse supple and happy in mind and body. He will also guide us through the inevitable cycles of human burnout, how to address them and the neuroscience behind it all. From classical dressage, to Mongolian shamans, to self-compassion, to the science of the brain, join us on this extraordinary journey. It will change your life.
Life Enrichment Through Success With Horses
Recently named Horsemanship for Human Development, this newly recognized, non-clinical, non-therapy, and non-academic approach involves a professional horse trainer being skilled and knowledgeable enough to facilitate a conscious, trust-based connection between a human and a horse with the expressed purpose of enriching the lives of both species simultaneously. With some of the current equine assisted learning programs and models, the focus is primarily on servicing and assisting the human. The horse is considered an active, integral part in that process and checks are in place to assure no abuse of the horse occurs during those sessions. This is different as it has a stated goal of enriching the lives of both the equine and the human during any one session.
Small details can make a big difference when it comes to improving your riding! Learn how you can improve your physical communication with your four-legged friend just by exercising mindful movement throughout your day.
We’ll cover injury prevention through stabilization and balancing your muscles to improve performance. Whether you’re a backyard rider or a high level competitor, this information will be helpful. Your horse will thank you for it!

Mandalas in the Sand: The joining of archetypal images and equine energy to foster new growth and understanding of Self.
EFL practitioners and psychotherapy clinicians often use mandalas to help clients to tap into their intuitive Self. During sessions, when horses are present, they can amplify, act out and support in the process. In the office setting, many therapists are now using Sand Play Therapy to facilitate personal development.
Through lecture and experiential exercises, participants will learn the basic tenets of Equine Facilitated Sand Play Therapy (EFSPT), understand the benefits and limitations of implementing EFSPT in their therapeutic milieu and observe/experience the impact of a three dimensional mandala constructed by a human and being ‘held’ by a horse.
Understanding Equine Body Language -Communication Through Body Work
Healing and learning happen when horses and humans are in the Parasympathetic Nervous System, aka rest/digest/relax. We will deepen our understanding of equine body language to include the subtle reactions and responses of the Autonomic Nervous System (aka rest/digest/relax and fight/flight/freeze), then learn and practice a few simple bodywork/massage strokes. As we observe the horses’ responses to bodywork in terms of their nervous systems, we gain a broader understanding of how horses communicate and how we can communicate with them emotionally, mentally, and physically.
A Calmer Horse is Just a Sniff Away
Dr. Ann Baldwin
How many ways can you think of to stress out a horse? Trailering, bathing, clipping, vet visits, hoof trims, bridling, saddling — the possibilities are endless. Unfortunately, calming options are not. New research will be presented showing how lavender relaxes horses by increasing the parasympathetic component of their heart rate variability. This study was recently published and has received a lot of attention!
Three Keys To Centering and Connecting to The Horse From Deep Within, on the Ground and in the Saddle
Participants will gain clarity on how to feel their pelvis and how to know when it is centered or not so that they can feel more balanced on the ground and in the saddle.
They will learn how to connect to the horses from deep within through their energy centers (heart and belly) and meditate with their horses. Thus, they can connect even more deeply with the horses and each other.
Through exercises and partner shares they will discover what’s mentally and emotionally in the way to truly connecting.
Energy Fields and You
Tapping into our inner energy and recognizing our energy field and the energy fields of others can be tremendously helpful in being present with others and building rapport. This session will enable you to explore the energy fields between yourself and another person as well as yourself and a horse. The goal is for you to become better able to visually recognize non-verbal body language as well as tap into the senses within your body to improve presence and communications.
